Please act now: Call on the Prime Minister to protect refugees in the Mediterranean

refugee-council

The world is in the grip of the greatest refugee crisis in recent memory.

Shamefully, our leaders’ response has been to build the walls of fortress Europe ever higher, leaving desperate people dying disgracefully on our doorstep in the Mediterranean Sea.

On the 25th of June, European leaders have the chance to take decisive action to save lives and stop the smugglers in their tracks by offering refugees another route to safety.

We must resettle more people; bringing them directly and safely to European countries. We must also allow people to reunite with their loved ones; by making it easier for refugees to join their relatives already living in safety in Britain.

Ask your MP to call on the Prime Minister to act now.

Please follow the simple instructions that follow to email your MP. It will only take a couple of minutes but could help save lives.

I am horrified by the humanitarian disaster unfolding on our doorstep in the Mediterranean Sea. In the face of the worst refugee crisis since World War II, men, women and children are being forced to risk their lives because they lack legal routes to safety in the UK and other EU countries. In April alone, 1,300 people died or went missing attempting to make this perilous journey. As your constituent, I am writing to you to urge you to take action.

Please call on the Prime Minister to lead Europe by responding compassionately and ensuring that saving lives is central to any response. Please urge him to attend the meeting and voluntarily pledge that his Government will:

  • offer thousands of additional places on Britain’s life-changing resettlement programmes to refugees around the world, bringing them directly and safely from the region to our shores.
  • make it easier for refugees to join relatives already living in safety in Britain, so that they can travel legally without being forced to undertake dangerous journeys in their search for refuge.

I want to live in a country that stands up for the world’s refugees; by not only offering them protection once they arrive here, but also by creating legal routes so they are not forced to put their lives in the hands of smugglers in their search for a safe haven.

I look forward to hearing your views on this matter.
